Sam Huntington and Haylie Duff are in negotiations to star in “Tug,” an indie film from writer-director Abram Makowka that will be one of the first features to film in Michigan since the announcement in April of the state’s 40% film tax incentive program.

Set in small-town Michigan, “Tug” centers on a guy (Huntington) whose life begins to unravel when he is torn between staying with his current girlfriend or going back to his psycho ex (Duff).

TicTock Studios’ Hopwood DePree and Rebecca Green are producing and financing. Production will begin in June.

Huntington is repped by UTA, Duff is repped by WMA and Curtis Talent Management.

A film set is a weird combination of heavy industry and intimate craft, as when the diesel engine fires on a big mobile crane in the woods near Buntzen Lake, while actor Haylie Duff weeps quietly standing next to a gas heater.A big light atop that crane needs adjusting between shots, hence the loud diesel. And Duff is staying in character as one of a group of vacationing college students who just found one of their number dead.

“It kind of depends on what the scene is,” Duff says later. “When you have something like that, where there’s no dialogue to get you where you need to be — for me, I have to stay in it, cause it’s too hard for me to bring it up and let it go.”

Danny Nucci, Haylie Duff and Ryan Merriman will soon be seen in the Spike original movie, “Backwoods,” the U.S. cable network said Monday.The thriller, which is to premiere on Spike June 8 in high definition, is slated to air as part of the “Spike Guy Movies” being broadcast throughout 2008.Spike TV’s original “Spike Guy Movies” average nearly 1.5 million viewers each month, the network said.Spike described “Backwoods” as a “terrifying thriller centered on a group of young colleagues who set out for a fun company retreat in the remote woods, only to find themselves hunted by the unknown and fighting for their lives.”Nucci’s screen credits include “World Trade Center” and “Titanic.” Duff has appeared in “Material Girls” and in “Hairspray” on Broadway and Merriman was in the acclaimed TV miniseries “Comanche Moon,” as well as the big-screen horror flick “The Ring 2.”

According to IMDB Haylie is filming a new movie called ‘Dead End’. Here’s a summary:

Five students on spring break meet at a secluded island cabin for a weekend getaway. After a night of music, drinking and getting re-acquainted the five friends are shocked to find the cabin’s caretaker murdered and the only boat off the island gone. Stranded on the island they become the prey of a mysterious killer who seems bent on revenge for something the friends have done. They must defend themselves and find their tormentor or face death one by one.

IMDB isn’t the most reliable source, so I don’t know if it’s true. I sure hope so though!

EDIT: I went on the production company’s website and it looks like it’s true, but it has a different name. The movie is called ‘Deep Cove’. You can see what it’s about here.

YAY! Another movie!

Haylie Duff has a few choice words for embattled peer Miley Cyrus, still reeling from the backlash of her Vanity Fair scandal. “You have to realize this is the position you’re in and you’re fortunate to be in that position,” says Haylie noting that her sister Hilary always took her position as a role model “very seriously.”

“You don’t have to live your life for other people, but you do owe it, to a certain extent, to be above reproach,” says Haylie about Cyrus’s responsibilities. “Especially in a time when there aren’t many female role models for girls, you have to step up and be the role model.”

She adds, “I think she’s in a wonderful position to do that. She does in a lot of ways, but she’s also a baby, and she’s going to make mistakes, and she’s allowed to.” Haylie, like many celebrities, feels the recent scandal from the Miley Cyrus racy photos (the first link is safe) has been blown out of proportion.

“I don’t know if I thought it was the most risqué photo I’ve ever seen, but some people did. If she was comfortable and happy to do it and felt beautiful, or whatever the situation was, then it was her choice to make. People should respect that and be able to hold their opinions about it.”

The former “Hairspray” star has been busy as of late helping girls get the chance to be on Broadway in the new MTV series “Legally Blonde: The Search for the New Elle Woods,” premiering June 2. Haylie is serving as host and executive producer of the show, which follows 10 women as they vie for the opportunity to replace the original Elle Woods of Broadway, Laura Bell Bundy.

“You’ll see a group of girls that are so ambitious and driven and want this more than anything. The things they put up and deal with are pretty incredible,” she notes. “It was great getting to see these girls participate in something that could possibly change their lives.”

The hits of Haylie Duff Online have been increasing since it’s been made public that she will be hosting the Legally Blonde show. That’s great! It means that Haylie is gaining more exposure and people are interested in finding out more about her. I am soooo happy and excited for Haylie!
